That I May Hear Him
In these unprecedented times, one of our deepest desires is to hear the Lord speak to us. His voice brings assurance that we are on the right path, giving us the boldness, confidence and grace to persevere.
Imagine being ready for work when you hear the Lord tell you to delay, even though you are already late. Later, on your way, you discover that a terrible accident has just occurred.
Imagine being prompted to go upstairs, only to discover that the iron was left on. Imagine being directed to study particular topics before an examination, only to find that those exact topics appear in it.
Imagine being prompted to minister to someone, and as you speak, she bursts into tears. She has been drowning in her emotions, and you have arrived at the right time.
The faith of one who hears the Lord speak cannot easily be shaken. People may wonder what drives you or where your strength comes from, but you will wade through the storms of life, pass through fire, leap over walls and march valiantly into any battle Satan brings against you.
Paul heard the Lord clearly; hence, nothing ever talked him out of his faith.
And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. Acts 9:4-5
Paul’s confession in Romans 8:37-39 is the testimony of a man who truly encountered and heard the Lord. He saw, felt and heard, and that encounter sustained him throughout his journey of faith.
Ananias heard the Lord, and His word overcame Ananias’s fear that Saul might harm him. Abraham heard God and embarked on a journey of faith without reasoning everything out. Moses heard God and found the boldness to return to Egypt and face Pharaoh. Joshua heard the Lord and led the children of Israel into the Promised Land. Gideon heard the Lord and tore down the altars of idolatry without fear. Elijah heard God, confronted Ahab and slew 300 prophets of Baal. In each case, hearing God produced the courage to obey Him.
Can you hear God speak? In times of many voices and so much confusion, one prayer will be that we hear the Lord clearly. Many are undecided in life because they do not know which way to take.
There are many false prophets of propaganda whose words are difficult to discern. They speak as though they are angels of light, yet their words are deceptive and filled with darkness. The media have not always helped us; we have been conditioned to accept breaking news hook, line and sinker, giving others the opportunity to shape our thinking.
We need to hear the Lord concerning our families, careers, choices, decisions and the direction of our lives. How can we move forward without hearing Him? To do so would be to walk in darkness with no light in sight.
Let us pray in the verse below:
And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21 (KJV)
Amen!
