Assuring Grace

In the year King Uzziah died, Isaiah saw the Lord – that was a new beginning for him.

Isaiah 6: 1: In the year that King Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted, and his train filled the temple.

King Uzziah was very successful and was marvellously helped by the Lord 2 Chronicles 26:15 until he sinned against the Lord. Some things represent a "King Uzziah" in our lives and can hinder one from seeing the Lord.

A king is anything or anyone that can control us - job, car, children, money, attitude, behaviour, social media - TikTok, FB, Instagram, snap chat, TV programme, etc. Other things that have the ability to take our eyes off Jesus e.g. taking offence, giving offence, carnality, etc. These things must die before we can see a new beginning.

Colossians 3:5 mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth

Ten things that can prevent one from seeing the Lord:

1. The attitude of not letting go: The attitude of always wanting to prove a point or prove that you are right will take one's eyes off the Lord. Once you have made your leave it, let go and let God.

2. Some of us don't like to be cheated or overlooked: You want to be seen or noticed. This is not needed because the Lord has got your back. In Isaiah 49:15, the Lord says that even if a mother forgets her suckling child, The Lord will not forget you. Some would say, they did this for 'A' and 'B' but didn't do it for me. Apostle Paul asked in 1 Corinthians 6: 7 – Why do ye not rather take wrong or suffer yourselves to be defrauded?

3. Ignorance: Saints are destroyed for lack of knowledge Hosea 4:6. We should seek to know the truth of the word that sets free, John 8:32.

4. Rejecting the word: Struggles with accepting the word of the Lord or cherry-picking the word of the Lord.

5. Worry and anxiety: Especially with the austerity measures being put in place. The Lord will keep in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusted in thee, Isaiah 26:3.

6. Arrogance and pride: These are diseases that affect both the poor and the rich. King Uzziah was marvellously helped by the Lord and became powerful, but he was proud, which led to his downfall, 2 Chronicles 26:15-16.

7. Survival instincts e.g., self-preservation/selfishness: anything that revolves around me, myself and I.

8. Self-help: The powerful King Uzziah began to help himself as he thought he could do what he likes. He went to do the work of the priest, burn incense upon the altar, reserved for the priests, thereby sinning against the Lord. 2 Chronicles 26: 16-20.

9. Past achievements and or failures can get into one's head - that's why Apostle Paul admonished us to forget those things which are behind and look forward to the things that lie ahead. Philippians 3:13.

10. Associations and relationships we keep.

Ask the Lord to open the eyes of your heart so that you may see him.
