Resting in the Storm

In life’s storms, we must see Yeshua in our own personal boat calming the winds and waves. They obey HIM. Storms teach us how Yeshua is in charge of every situation we face. Through them, we learn everything turns out for our good if we trust Him. Yeshua taught His disciples this in the middle of a physical storm.
And the same day, when the evening was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. (Mark 4:35 KJV)
And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. (Matthew 8:23 KJV)
Yeshua led the disciples into the storm. He said, “Let’s go to the other side.” Fishermen can read the weather and some of the disciples were Fishermen. Sea Fishermen need to be weather experts. They need to be sure it is safe to take a boat out to sea. They knew a storm was likely and went out into the boats, trusting Yeshua. Yet when a storm blows up, they are beside themselves with fear.
“And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, Master, we perish” (Mark 8:24 KJV)
Isn’t that like us? We count the cost, say “yes Lord,” then wonder if we made the right decision when things get difficult. He calls us, we follow, but then find ourselves in a storm and wonder if we made a huge mistake.
The wind blows, waves crash against the ship. Yet Yeshua was asleep. He was giving his followers a lesson in rest. They can trust Him. He is His father’s son and has power over the wind and waves. He can tell any storm, “Be still.”
The disciples waking Yeshua with their fear is like us when we cry out, “Help me Lord” in a crisis. There is nothing else we can do. We need Yeshua to calm the wind and waves.
“Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.” (Luke 8:24 KJV)
That calm affected those in the other boats that followed Yeshua into the storm. The peace we learn brings rest and peace to others.
“And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.” (Mark 4:36)
There was a storm, but Yeshua knew the moment it would end. He knew they would wake him out of fear, but He would teach them His peace. As disciples of Yeshua, we can trust when storms arise, we can trust he has an appointed time for their end.
Even if God leads us into a difficult situation, our obedience assures us of His power to bring us to a deeper rest, peace, and trust than we knew before. He bids the winds and waves buffeting our lives. “Be still.”
