Assuring Grace

When the Lord gives an assignment that seems impossible or tedious to us, it is easy to fall into the trap of wriggling oneself out of it with excuses. One can do this by looking at self, deficiencies, limited resources, lack of time and energy; problems around us, and so on.

Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. Exodus 3: 9,10 KJV.

He knew Moses before he was born as the creator. He knows what he can and cannot do. He knew the potentials which Moses himself didn’t know.   He created Pharoah as well. The stage has been set by Him and both are to play out their part. Just like any other person, Moses looked at himself and his limitations. He is slow of speech and tongue. We look at ourselves forgetting that ‘self’ is one of the critical adversaries that hinder us from fulfilling our God-given purpose.

And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. Exodus 4:10 KJV.

Self can be a hindrance to what God wants us to do. That is why Jesus said in Matthew 16:24, KJV. “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. “

To follow Christ, the first criteria is denial of self. It is the first thing we look at when deciding on the pursuit of our God-given assignment.

And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart. Exodus 4:14 KJV

Elohim God knows all our constraints before calling us to carry out an assignment on his behalf. He told Moses that He knows Aaron can speak well, yet he chose Moses to speak to Pharaoh. The Lord does not call the qualified but qualifies the called.

Let’s pray to the Lord to deliver us from every excuse preventing us from fulfilling our God-given purpose. A preacher once said that excuses are glorified lies.
